Mobile Refrigeration Trailer Technician

Purpose of Position

Perform all phases of repairs and modification while meeting or exceeding proper safety and established industry and trade procedures. Perform all work assigned within allocated time and meeting or exceeding established company quality standards.

Position Requirements

Key Roles: UCE, Efficiency, Safety, GP, Quality

  • Education / Training – High school diploma or GED required; EPA 609 Certification required. Thermo King and Carrier repair experience strongly preferred.
  • Language Skills – Ability to read and comprehend instructions, safety rules and correspondence. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information one-on-one and in small group situations to other employees
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret bar graphs
  • Will have 5 plus years’ experience working on Reefer and A/C units in the transportation industry

Essential Duties

  • Diagnose complex mechanical, refrigerant, and electrical problems related to all Reefer systems (single & multi- temp), including engine, cooling, heating, and on-board computer modules.
  • Main duties will be to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair components in the field and shop on refrigeration units. Preference will go to those who have experience or completed training on Thermo King or Carrier reefer units
  • Perform repairs and diagnostics on starting and charging system, complex cooling, and re-charge, and electrical including common fault codes. Repairs include performing leak detection procedures, compressor replacements, rebuilding throttling valves, soldering refrigerant lines, evaporator/condenser replacements and front main engine seal replacements.
  • Perform repair and maintenance on reefer units in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Identify and obtain necessary replacement parts as needed to execute repairs.
  • Provide customer with accurate repair estimates and expected completion times.
  • Must be consistently capable of independently analyzing and safely resolving problems.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs of trailer refrigeration. Conducts general and non-scheduled maintenance, including inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing components and systems.
  • Must furnish own tools
  • Must be able to use hand tools and test equipment

  • The position is assigned to a mobile service truck.
  • The physical exertion is moderate to heavy. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The employee must be capable of continuously climbing up and down into a truck. Other physical activities include walking, lifting, twisting, turning, and climbing a ladder.
  • There are frequent employee and customer contacts.
  • Requires the ability to operate a cell phone and personal computer, calculator, and other basic office equipment.
  • It also requires the safe operation of a tow motor or pallet jack as needed.
  • The position requires the use of electric hand tools used for cutting aluminum, wood, and steel.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and drive. A valid driver license will be required to operate a jockey truck and other vehicles.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
